Best wishes to Gyles

The Society's recently-departed President, Gyles Brandreth, is soon going to appear in Edinburgh as a stand-up comedian. Let's hope it's a big success! Find it in the Pleasance Courtyard 4 - 30 August. His group is Bound and Gagged Comedy.

That's interesting. All the best to the past president. I once heard Mr Brandreth speak and he was very entertaining with all sorts of anecdotes from his varied career. I remember that he said that whilst a student his father had won the game of Monopoly. He had never played it and told his landlady of his lucky win.During the conversation, taking place in the hallway,a girl, who lived on the top floor- who he had never spoken to- joined them. They all agreed to meet later for a game of Monopoly. His father and the young lady eventually married and apart from that one time the box of Monopoly was never opened- they never played again. What a coincidence it was that on their wedding anniversary( not sure which) their son Gyles became European Monopoly Champion!

Thanks for the many varied and interesting topics you post on the blog.
